The Wolf Among Us – Video Game Review

wolfamong If you liked the Fable comics series that came out in 2002 and is scheduled to end in 2015 — this game is meant for you. However, even if you have never read the series, but love a modern day take on the Big Bad Wolf or Snow White, this will also excite you. The comic series was created by Bill Willinghamby and transformed into a five part episodic video game that requires fast decisions by Telltale games. It is a bit of a choose your own adventure game. Your choices can make or break a situation.

Chapter five has yet to be released, but you can still buy the game and play chapters 1-4 right now. Your game will update as the next chapter is released. The last chapter is due out Tuesday, July 8, 2014.

I can’t say enough about this game. I am thoroughly enjoying it and am happy to say that the game has definite replay potential. The game is all story. So if you are looking for action, this is not the best game for that. There are a couple fight scenes, but overall it is all listening, searching, and talking. You follow Bigby the Sheriff of Fabletown, AKA the Big Bad Wolf. Fables are being killed in Fabletown and it’s up to him and Snow White to track the killer down. You are in control of Bigby and what his actions and words are throughout the game.

If you are interested in checking it out, it is available on Steam for $24.99. There is also a game trailer on the site to check out. You can also visit the Vertigo website to view the trailer and check out any new comics. The game is available on PC and Mac. I paid full price and do not regret a penny. Also, in case you are wondering, each episode will take roughly two hours to complete.

Synopsis: From the makers of the 2012 Game of the Year: The Walking Dead, comes a gritty, violent and mature thriller based on the award-winning Fables comic books (DC Comics/Vertigo). As Bigby Wolf — THE big bad wolf — you will discover that a brutal, bloody murder is just a taste of things to come in a game series where your every decision can have enormous consequences.

An evolution of Telltale’s ground-breaking choice and consequence game mechanics will ensure the player learns that even as Bigby Wolf, Sheriff of Fabletown, life in the big bad city is bloody, terrifying and dangerous.
